What is a bedside crib?
A bedside crib (also known as a co-sleeper or bassinet) is a baby crib that can be attached to your adult bed, allowing your newborn to sleep safely next to you. It's a method of co-sleeping that is safe and does not increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) similar to bedsharing and can help you bond with your baby's new arrival.
The cots usually have a side that can be lowered, so you can easily reach your infant throughout the night for feeding and comforting. This is particularly useful for mothers recovering from a c-section. Many are also mobile or foldable, which means you can bring them along on trips and use them as a temporary sleeping option for babies who aren't quite ready to move to a larger cot.
When you are looking for a crib that is bedside, look for a model with a breathable mattress and a protective cover to shield your baby from stains. You'll also want to pick up some baby-safe add-ons such as a blanket and a cuddly toy.
If you're looking for a longer-term option, some cribs come with conversion kits that let you transform them into a cot or toddler bed at the time of need. This is a great option for extending their life span and making the transition more seamless. Some even have a removable top section that converts into a bassinet, while others can be used on the regular or high-rise adult bed. This is a great option for families that are planning to travel frequently or change between bedrooms at night. Take into consideration the dimensions of your bedroom to ensure that you fit comfortably in the crib. Many cribs come with a riser that can be used to create an incline to accommodate babies with reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
Known for their high-quality baby products English brand Joie has entered the world of cribs that are bedside with the Roomie Glide. The co-sleeper was created to allow parents to connect and sleep side by side with their babies without sharing one bed. It's loaded with features that help make bonding between parent and baby safe, simple, and fun.
A smooth, steady rocking motion could be activated by pressing the button. This can soothe baby into sleep with a gentle rhythm that doesn't disrupt their normal sleep pattern. This is great for toddlers and older babies who struggle to settle and can help with digestion problems such as reflux and colic.
The crib can also be fixed to the side of the bed using an attachment strap and clip. This makes the crib stable and secure and allows you to sleep peacefully, without having to worry that your baby might roll off into the middle. The rounded cocoon shape has softly padded sides and two mesh windows at both ends to allow for plenty of airflow while keeping your baby secure.
The mattress included is comfortable and firm. It also comes with a washable cover. The aluminium frame is light and lightweight, making the crib very mobile and easy to put together. The four rubber-covered wheels lockable ensure that the crib will not leave marks on your flooring and is easy to move. It is easy to clean with wipeable woven fabrics and is easy to carry in a backpack, making it perfect for overnight stays away from home.

Anna discovered that the CoZee was a safe and comfortable sleeping space for her infant. She was pleased that it didn't move like other models so she didn't wake up in the night trying to comfort her child during feedings. She also appreciated that the side of the chair lowered so that she didn't have to reach over her partner to carry the child out to feed them at night.
bedside travel crib CoZee is available in charcoal and oak and is a chic addition to the bedroom. It's more stylish than the other cribs we've tested that are usually utilitarian. It is also relatively lightweight at just 11kg and comes with a carry case so you can bring it on holiday or when you are moving home. It's all you need to buy is an waterproof sheet and a safety strap to sleep with your partner. There are step-by-step directions and photos to help you put it together when first opening the box and making it a one-person task when needed.
The Maxi-Cosi Lora
The Iora is a bassinet for the bed that helps parents feel closer to their infant as they sleep. It can be adjusted up and down and can be moved through three slide positions to be placed next to the parent's bed, or in the corner of the room so that baby is always within arm's reach. The breathable mesh siding allows air to flow through, and lets you glance at your baby. And you can store additional pajamas and other items in the large storage basket underneath.
Unlike some other smaller bedside cribs Iora is a standout among other bedside cribs. Iora can be folded flat and comes with a travel bag to allow it to be taken wherever. Our mom testers found it easy to move from room to room and felt that it was a good size for a small bedside cot that was not too big or small. The large storage basket is ideal to store bedding and nappies.
This is an excellent choice for parents who want to co-sleep, but do not want to share their beds or whose partner may be suffering from mobility issues, such as back problems or arthritis. Our mom testers are thrilled with the ease with which they can access their child in the Iora and that it comes with an option to tilt the bed upwards to help alleviate gas.
Our mothers appreciate that the mattress follows NICE guidelines. These include placing the baby in the Moses basket or crib on its own without toys, blankets and pillows. The mattress is also a good firm and comfortable for the baby and sheets are readily available. It isn't as light as the other smaller bedside cribs however and if you're looking for something lighter and more portable, look at alternatives on our list.
